Barry moved to Sarasota 2 years ago from Santa Rosa, CA. He did
his graduate work in Sociology at the University of Tennessee Knoxville
and also has an undergraduate degree in Finance. Barry's current
work focuses on business and leadership development with companies
wishing to expand their scope and profitability. He is the founder
and principal of the Sarasota-based consulting firm, The BT Group.
In Sarasota he and his colleagues are working with Photo-Tech
to enhance their infrastructure and provide marketing research to
support significant business expansion. Barry also serves as the
Research Coordinator for the Future of Work Consortium, working
with Fortune 100 clients and select communities to identify trends
and needs of distributed workers who are just as likely to work
from a coffee shop as a home office.
His business experience includes having started and sold a medical
information business before the Internet had even come online, then
serving as a VP, Marketing and Communications for a “.com”
in the blazing days of the Web. Barry also teaches the martial art
of Aikido in Sarasota and holds the rank of Nidon (2nd degree Black
Belt) in Aikido (www.aikidosarasota.com
) and conducts leadership and communication seminars using principles
from Aikido.
He also worked at the Research Triangle Institute in N.C. where
he participated in the early promotion of the Research Triangle
Park. The Park was one of the first pollution-free research parks
in the U.S. RTI, a collaborative venture of UNC-Chapel Hill, Duke
University, and NC State, was the first resident of the Park. From
there he became an associate professor with Texas Christian University
in Fort Worth, while developing an applied research center and watching
the DFW Metroplex unfold. He also was the Research Director for
a private psychiatric hospital in Baltimore.
He has consulted for over 30 years with multinational corporations,
small businesses, government, and nonprofit groups. He has also
directed local, regional, and national applied research projects.
His clients include Levi Straus & Co., The Apollo Group (parent
of the University of Phoenix), Agilent Corporation, Herman-Miller
Corporation, and the Life Learning Center of St. Joseph’s
Hospital System in California. In addition to his consulting practice,
he is an adjunct professor with the University of San Francisco
and Argosy University - Sarasota. |
